Coastwest provides opportunities for Western Australians to learn about, conserve and protect our coast.

Successful Coastal Grants recipients for 2020/21 announced

25 community and environmental projects, including 11 coastal erosion hotspots along our coastline will share over half a million dollars through the State Governments coastal grant programs.

The CoastWest and Coastal Management Plan Assistance Program costal grants, administered by the Department, play a key role in assisting local governments and communities to plan, protect, manage and enhance Western Australia's coastal areas. 

This year’s grants include:

  • 21 Coastwest grants worth $357,854 
  • 4 Coastal Management Plan Assistance Program grants totalling $277,610. 

As part of the State Government’s coastal grant program the Department of Transport announced their Coastal Adaptation and Protection program recipients for this year. 

Previous Coastwest funded projects

The 2019/20 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 18 February - 15 April 2019. Thirty-eight applications were received and 17 projects were approved to share in $356,425 of grants.

The 2018/19 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 16 February - 9 April 2018. Twenty seven applications were received and 20 projects were approved to share in $375,014 of grants.

The 2017/18 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 16 January – 21 March 2017. Twenty eight applications were received and 21 projects were approved to share in $388,169 of grants.

The 2016/17 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 8 March–8 April 2016. Twenty-eight applications were received and 18 projects were approved to share in $338,100 of grants.

The 2015/16 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 13 April–30 June 2015. Forty-five applications were received and 22 projects were approved to share in $452,444 of grants. 

The 2014/15 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 15 May–30 June 2014. Forty-six applications were received and 25 projects were approved to share in $507,000 of grants.

The 2013/14 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 15 April–24 June 2013. Forty-two applications were received and 21 projects were approved to share in $568,555 of grants. 

The 2012/13 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 30 April–26 July 2012. Fifty-eight applications were received and 30 projects were approved to share in $752,532 of grants.

The 2012 Coastwest grants round was open for applications from 4 July–29 September 2011. Forty-six applications were received.

The 2011 Coastwest grant round was open for applications from 1 February–28 March 2011. Fifty-three applications were received.

By providing a series of monitoring methods, and a simple and structured way to record information, the Monitoring Manual provides a framework to assist the community to monitor the marine environment.
