Katanning Roller Flour Mill (Premier Mill Hotel)
The adaptive reuse of the former Katanning Roller Flour Mill as the Premier Mill Hotel is an exemplar of a heritage adaptive reuse project and a worthy winner of the prestigious Gerry Gauntlett Award. The Premier Roller Flour Mill has been at the core of Katanning’s heart and soul since its foundation in 1891, and this project has rejuvenated the town centre.
The judges noted that since the opening of the Premier Mill Hotel, the project has been widely embraced by locals and visitors alike. The blending of modern comforts with the industrial fabric has created comfortable spaces which convey a deep sense of the site’s cultural heritage.
The Government of Western Australia acknowledges the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of the Aboriginal communities and their cultures; and to Elders both past and present.
