Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has congratulated Western Australia's Government Architect Geoff Warn who will complete his term in the role this week.

Mr Warn has held the role since 2013, and leaves the position at the end of an extended contract having been instrumental in the establishment of the State Design Review Panel.

A passionate advocate for the importance of good urban design in built environments, Mr Warn has provided expert guidance on many landmark projects that have played a significant role in shaping WA, including Optus Stadium, Albany's National ANZAC Centre and the new WA Museum.

The Office of the Government Architect under Mr Warn's leadership has successfully collaborated with other Government agencies to develop and promote inspiring design policies, guidelines or objectives. The Design Review Guide - developed as part of the State Government's Design WA initiative - will provide a lasting legacy of Mr Warn's tenure as Government Architect.

WA Planning Commission Chairman David Caddy will serve as the interim Chair of the State Design Review Panel until a new permanent appointment is made.
