The McGowan Government has awarded a $4.3 million contract to local civil construction company MMM WA Pty Ltd to undertake remediation work along the Rivervale foreshore.

Investigations by the Western Australian Planning Commission found preventative works to stabilise and reinforce the foreshore near Tanunda Drive are a priority, following a 2012 landslide and subsequent engineering report.

A limestone retaining structure will be built to reduce the incline of the slope, helping to stabilise the foreshore and protect the steep embankment from deterioration over time.

An important element of the project is revegetation of the area with native flora, which will both enhance the visual appeal of the embankment and contribute to its integrity over time.

MMM WA is a local contractor with experience in this specialised area of marine and civil construction, having successfully undertaken many similar projects along the environmentally sensitive Swan River foreshore.

A community information session will be held on Wednesday September 11.
