Subiaco's new planning scheme to retain character and support growth

Planning Minister Rita Saffioti has approved a new local planning scheme for the City of Subiaco which prioritises greater density around activity centres and transport services.

The Minister congratulated Mayor Penny Taylor for her collaborative approach to local planning and for listening to what was important to the Subiaco community in accommodating future population growth.

The new scheme and the State's Design WA policy suite provides a framework to manage new development and complements the unique character of Subiaco.

Rezoning around existing activity centres such as Rokeby Road will also support local businesses by increasing vibrancy and population within a walkable catchment.

Under the new scheme, the City of Subiaco is well positioned to respond to the need for alternative housing options close to existing community facilities, established parks and transport services to meet Perth's growing population.

Development within the Subi East precinct that covers the former Subiaco Oval and Princess Margaret Hospital sites also takes infill pressure off other heritage areas of the City of Subiaco.
